Bread of Angels – nourishing us now and evermore
It is interesting to think about some of the people who have contributed to this week’s Congress but who are not physically present for one reason or another. I personally know people who have decided to spend extra time in prayer and adoration in their local parishes but who will not be here. We hope to unite with them in prayer.
One interesting story that has emerged is the contribution made by an enclosed order of Cistercian nuns in Co. Waterford. The nuns at St. Mary’s Abbey, Glencairn, won the commission to make the altar breads for the Congress and prepared 250,000 communion hosts, together with 100 extra-large hosts for consecration.
The nuns have a Eucharistic Bread Department, and they say that extra help was required from the sisters who normally don’t work in this department. As we are seeing here at the Congress, they successfully completed their commission.
Perhaps we should remember them as we are nourished “now and evermore.”
