Archbishop Bashar Matti Warda was born in 1969 in Baghdad, Iraq. He is Archbishop of the Chaldean Catholic Church. He was educated at the Chaldean Patriarchal Seminary of St Peter at Dora, near Baghdad.
In 1994 he entered the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer (Redemptorists), completing his novitiate studies in Dundalk, Ireland and his doctorate at the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium.
Archbishop Warda is the leader of 200,000 Chaldean Christians who face persecution in Iraq and across the Middle East.
