Br Luuk was born in the Netherlands, he went to non-religious primary and secondary schools before going to study Mechanical Engineering. In February 2002, as part of the last semester of his four-year degree, he came to Ireland to do a 4 month placement. On finishing his degree, he remained in Ireland and got the opportunity to do a Masters through Research while working.
During his time in the company he met a Catholic colleague who told him about God, and he engaged in discussions and some research on the topic. For the first time in his life he became convinced of the existence of God and was baptised and received into the Church at Easter 2003.
Between 2003 and 2007 he finished studying and working for an International Company and eventually started his own company. After much discerning, in September 2007, he joined the Irish Dominicans. Having taken his simple vows, solemn vows and finished his Philosophical studies, Br Luuk is now studying Theology with a view to being ordained to the priesthood.Br Luuk is also a volunteer at the Congress and has been instrumental in the design and development of the IEC2012 iPhone App.
