The opening liturgy of the 50th International Eucharistic Congress took place on Sunday 10th June, the feast of Corpus Christi in the Arena at the Royal Dublin Society (RDS).

The Mass in the RDS was celebrated, with pilgrims gathering from all over Ireland and overseas. The liturgy included Mass and a colourful celebration that welcomed pilgrims to an amazing week-long spiritual and cultural festival.
The Opening Ceremony was a celebration of Irish Heritage, both cultural and spiritual. The ceremony acknowledged the Gathering of thousands of pilgrims to the RDS. During the Gathering pilgrims enjoyed choirs and musicians as they rehearsed for the Mass and appearances by some of Ireland's finest musicians and singers.
As the Gathering drews to a close, the Congress extended a true Irish welcome to national and international pilgrims. This welcome involved some 500 participants, bearing flags and banners representing each parish in Ireland, an expression of individual communities. Before Mass started, the Gathering concluded with an extract from The Book of Armagh, illustrating St Patrick’s wisdom and understanding.
RTÉ, salt and Light Television (Canada) and EWTN, among others, broadcasted the Opening Mass from the RDS on television and online.
